It built on a hilltop, around 400 ft above the nearby plains. This fort complex spans approx 1,200 acres. This fort was built by Rao Jodha from Rathore clan in 15th century, while the current structure is from the 17th century built by his successors.
The fort has seven gates, which includes remarkable Jai Pol and Fatteh Pol which are built on victory by Kings Man singh and Ajit singh to commemorate their victories.
The fort is home to numerous intricate carvings, Mata Chamunda Mata Mandir and a museum. The fort is witness of many wars. Chhatri of Kirit Sodha (a martyr solidier) is testimony for same.
